Alcazar Custom Home – 2022 Building Sustainability Award Winner
The Alcazar Home is one of Theta Homes' most celebrated projects — an ADA compliant, EarthCraft certified custom home in Richmond, VA, designed by architect hays+ewing design studio of Charlottesville, VA, and completed in April 2019.
This high-performance home received a HERS score of 41 at completion — making it 59% more energy efficient than a comparable code-built home. Following the installation of a solar PV system in 2022, the HERS score dropped to -8, meaning the home now generates more electricity than it consumes.
In recognition of its exceptional energy performance and design quality, the Alcazar Home was awarded the 2022 Building Sustainability Award for Single Family Project of the Year by Viridiant.
