About Theta Homes
We are architects-turned-builders based in Richmond, VA, with over 15 years of experience designing and building sustainable, energy-efficient custom homes across the Greater Richmond area — including Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, and Goochland County.
Theta Homes is an EarthCraft certified Class A contractor. This means every home we build delivers better indoor air quality, lower utility bills, reduced maintenance, and superior comfort — built to the highest standards of modern building science.
We started Theta Homes because we believed Richmond homeowners deserved better: great design, honest craftsmanship, and homes built for how people actually live today.

Soumitra Banerjee – Architect, Builder & Energy Efficiency Expert
Soumitra Banerjee is the founder and CEO of Theta Homes, a Richmond, VA custom home builder specializing in energy-efficient, EarthCraft certified construction. With over 30 years of experience in architecture, design, and building science, Soumitra brings a rare combination of creative vision and technical expertise to every project.
Originally from Kolkata, India, Soumitra earned his Bachelor's in Architecture from Jadavpur University before completing a Master of Science in Architecture at Virginia Tech. He has proudly called Richmond home since 1986 — once a Virginian, always a Virginian!
In 1992, he founded Banerjee & Goff, an architectural firm that served major clients including Circuit City, Belk, Advance Auto Parts, Ferguson, Virginia Supportive Housing, and Southside Community Development & Housing Corporation — many of whom remain clients today. Expanding into residential design in the late 90s, he launched Theta Homes in 2013 to bring together great design and energy-efficient construction for Richmond homeowners.
Soumitra is passionate about innovation and sustainability. His deep proficiency with building technology and energy-efficient solutions means every Theta Homes project delivers better indoor air quality, lower utility bills, and long-term comfort. He is a great listener, always open to new ideas — and you will enjoy trusting him with the project of your dreams.
