Petersson Home Remodel – Opening the Kitchen & Updating a 1923 Richmond Home
When Britta Petersson bought this 1923 Richmond home for her parents, she wanted to modernize it while preserving its character. This was Theta Homes' fourth project for the Petersson family — a testament to the trust built over years of collaboration.
The scope included two main improvements. Downstairs, a load-bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed and replaced with a new steel beam installed above the ceiling line — creating a completely seamless, open-plan living space with no visible beam break. The structural engineering work was coordinated with a licensed structural engineer. The result is a bright, open room that, as the team notes, looks even better in person than in photos.
Upstairs, a bedroom was converted into a master bathroom and laundry room, adding significant practical value for the homeowners.
